About

The Author:

When I was born they called me Chris. I grew up in North Carolina, but later on I moved out west in search of gold. Whelp, I never found any gold (shocker), but I discovered much, much more.

Seven years ago I had an intense spiritual experience in a Starbucks parking lot (I had always heard it was a holy place?). And by “intense spiritual experience” what I mean is I fell down broken and sobbing in front of more people than I’d like to admit. God spoke to me more clearly in that parking lot than anywhere else in my life. Ever since then I’ve been pursuing a relationship with Jesus and trying to walk down this path He has put in front of me.  img_0389-pola1

As if that isn’t amazing enough, a few years ago I found the love of my life and we decided that it’s forever. Her name is Esmeralda.

We recently decided to get the heck out of dodge, so we packed up shop and moved to Des Moines, Iowa.   So as you are reading this, we are probably unpacking boxes and setting up shop in a new city, meeting new people, and learning just a little bit more about this life we have found.

I love people, creativity, and food.  And when their forces combine…well, it’s game over my friend.

So that’s basically it.

Oh, and I own the entire series of ALF on dvd.  He’s pretty much my hero and my inspiration.

The Church

I am the worship pastor at The Gateway Church, which meets in down town Des Moines.  Gateway is a brand new community and is on the verge of tearing down the walls of the city in such a way that true love is pouring out into the streets.  The church is new, and so is my role, so there will be more information coming down the pipes.

The Blog

This is my personal blog, and that’s exactly what it is – personal. Unfortunately, I am from the school of thought that says we are supposed to be personal with everyone. So chris-speak-polawhether it makes sense, is offensive, is thoughtful, or even is – I just want you to know that it is me.

Life is a journey, and to be honest I’m not in very good shape. But I believe God just calls us to be in a different place than we were yesterday – always moving closer into him.

I also believe in the epic story of life, and my volume is still being written.  Good stories have chapters that disappoint, chapters that leave you hanging, and chapters that make you smile – but every chapter begs you to come in and be a part of the story.  And that’s what I’m asking of you too.  Be a part of my story.

God will make it all beautiful in the end.
